Indian power sector bracing for sharp coal shortages

India is facing a potential shortage of coal used to produce electricity.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called a high-level meeting later this week to discuss the problem, which could have drastic knock-on effects for the country's economy.

Shilpa Kannan has been examining why coal is so important for India.
