Thai economy grows 3% on exports


Thailand's economy grew 3% in the first quarter, compared to the same three months of last year.

Strong exports and a steady rise in consumer spending have reinforced expectations that the central bank will increase interest rates in June.

According to Michael Montesano, a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, the government's strategy of offering pay rises is making inflation worse.
