Plastic bottle catamaran spends four months at sea

A catamaran made out of 12,500 plastic bottles and other recycled plastic and waste products has sailed into Sydney harbour, completing a journey which started in San Francisco.

The Plastiki left the US with a six-man crew and sailed for four months on renewable energy.

Skipper David De Rothschild said the aim of the project was to draw attention to ocean pollution caused by plastic debris and to demonstrate that, with smart design, waste can be put to use.
