Total solar eclipse darkens skies as thousands gather

Help

A total solar eclipse has crossed the South Pacific briefly plunging swathes of ocean into darkness.

The eclipse was visible along an 11,000km arc, which included Easter Island.

Thousands of people travelled to the remote Chilean island to watch the spectacle.
