Activists criticise new Australia asylum policy


Australia's new prime minister Julia Gillard has announced plans to set up a regional processing centre in East Timor for asylum seekers.

Immigration is a hot topic in the run up to elections - and the aim of this policy is to stop people reaching Australian territory by boat.

Speaking on BBC World Service, Pamela Curr of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre said the number of people seeking asylum in Australia is much less than in many European countries.
