Nick Clegg announces fixed term parliament legislation

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has announced in the House of Commons details of legislation to provide fixed term parliaments.

Under the new law, the next general election would take place on 7 May 2015, he said.

He also announced a change to the number of votes needed for Parliament to be dissolved.
