About 50 firefighters have been tackling a large heath fire in Dorset.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service was called to Turners Puddle, between Bere Regis and Clouds Hill, on Thursday afternoon, a spokeswoman said.

The fire, across six hectares (15 acres) of gorse, was being fanned by the wind. Crews were trying to stop it spreading to nearby Ministry of Defence land.

A police helicopter was monitoring the spread of the fire.

It is not yet known how it started.
