Obama accepts McChrystal resignation

President Barack Obama has accepted the resignation of the top US military commander in Afghanistan after his criticism of leading administration officials.

Gen Stanley McChrystal has apologised for his comments made in a Rolling Stone article.

He will be replaced by Gen David Petraeus, who led the "surge" in Iraq.
