Chancellor announces bank levy in Budget
A levy will be imposed on UK banks and the UK operations of foreign banks from January 2011, George Osborne has said.
The move is designed to generate more than £2bn in annual revenue.
The chancellor said France and Germany have also agreed to impose levies.
