Two soldiers killed in Helmand Province in Afghanistan

Two soldiers from 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment have been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said.

The soldiers were killed on Friday afternoon in an exchange of fire with insurgent forces in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province.

The MoD said next of kin had been informed of the deaths.

These deaths takes the number of UK service personnel killed in Afghanistan to 292.

Lt Col James Carr-Smith, of Task Force Helmand, said: "They will be sorely missed and we will remember them."
