A serving police officer has been charged with six alleged sex offences involving two girls, the West Midlands force said.

Det Insp Glen Boulton, 44, from Solihull, has been suspended.

The alleged offences, four counts of indecent assault and two of indecency with a child, date back to between 1977 and 1982.

The force said criminal proceedings were now live and would not comment further.

It is understood DI Boulton will appear before magistrates in Wolverhampton next month.
