Solenodon hunt: Descent into the 'cave of bones'


Scientists are in the Dominican Republic in an attempt to save one of the world's most strange and ancient mammals - the Hispaniolan solenodon.

This creature has been around since the time of the dinosaurs - and now the researchers are trying to work out how the animal has managed to survive for so long.

Could a cave hold the answers to this mystery?

Dr Sam Turvey, a member of The Last Survivors team and a scientist with the Zoological Society of London, descends into the darkness of the cavern to find out.
