The Ganges river dolphin is completely blind, but hunts for prey using echolocation. They frequently swim on their sides, returning to the upright position when surfacing for air.

Physical Description
Ganges river dolphins have a distinctive appearance, with a long, thin snout, very small eyes and wide paddle-shaped flippers. They are a uniform colour but vary from blue to brown.

They inhabit the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers.

Diet
These dolphins feed on small fish and crustaceans.

Behaviour
Ganges river dolphins live singly or in pairs.

Conservation status
Ganges river dolphins are classified as Endangered by the 2000 Red List. Their numbers are declining due to the destruction of floodplains, which form their natural habitat. The estimated population is 4-6,000.
