Indo-Pacific hump-backed dolphin
Sousa chinensis
Populations of these dolphins found in the west have a hump that the dorsal fin sits on. Those in the east lack a hump and can sometimes get confused with bottlenose dolphins. Their unusual coloration makes them easy to spot.

Subspecies
Possibly two - one West of Sumatra and the other South and East of Sumatra.

Physical description
Indo-Pacific hump-backed dolphins are white, pink or ivory with a cushion-like hump and long slender beak.

Distribution
They are found in small groups in warm coastal waters of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans, including harbours, estuaries and mangrove swamps.

Diet
Indo-Pacific hump-backed dolphins feed on fish.

Behaviour
They occur in pairs or small family groups of 3-7.

Conservation status
Indo-Pacific hump-backed dolphins are classified as Data Deficient by the 2000 IUCN Red List.
