Northern right whale dolphin
Lissodelphis borealis

These dolphins have been spotted in pods as large as 3,000. Like their namesake, the right whale, they lack a dorsal fin.

Life span
Unknown.

Statistics
Body length: 2-3m, Weight: 60-100kg.

Physical description
Northern right whale dolphins appear entirely black but have a white belly stripe. They lack a dorsal fin and are very sleek.

Distribution
Northern right whale dolphins live in the N Pacific in temperate regions in cool and deep water.

Diet
They feed on fish, shrimps and squid.

Behaviour
Northern right whale dolphins live in schools of 5-200.

Conservation status
They are not listed by the 2000 IUCN Red List.
