Atlantic spinner dolphin, short-snouted spinner dolphin

Spinner dolphins are renowned for their fantastic acrobatic displays.

Unknown.

Statistics
Body length: 1.7-2m, Weight: 50-90kg.

Physical description
Atlantic spinner dolphins look very similar to spinner dolphins, but have a more robust body, less triangular dorsal fin and a shorter beak.

Distribution
Atlantic spinner dolphins live in tropical and subtropical Atlantic waters.

Diet
They feed on fish, squid and shrimp.

Behaviour
Atlantic spinner dolphins live in groups of 5-50.

Conservation status
They are classified as Data Deficient by the IUCN Red List.

Notes
Atlantic spinner dolphins spin on a longitudinal axis. They were described as a separate species from Stenella longirostris in 1981.
