This species lives in groups of one male to numerous females, but these groups sometimes gather with other groups to form bands of up to 200 individuals.

Physical description
Golden snub-nosed monkeys have dark brown fur on the back and tail, with long white/orange hairs on the shoulders and tail tip. They have orange under-parts and an orange face, legs, throat and face. The muzzle is white and the skin around the eyes is blue.

Distribution
This species inhabits China.

Habitat
Golden snub-nosed monkeys occupy mixed bamboo, conifer and deciduous forest.

Diet
They feed on leaves, buds, fruit and lichen.

Behaviour
They walk and climb quadrapedally and are arboreal and diurnal. The male leads and protects the group, often carrying youngsters.

Reproduction
Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkeys mate from October to December and give birth from April to June.

Conservation status
Golden snub-nosed monkey are in the Vulnerable category of the 2000 IUCN Red List.
