Greater bamboo lemur, broad-nosed gentle lemur
Hapalemur simus

Like pandas, most of their diet consists of bamboo.

None.

Life span
Unknown.

Statistics
Head and body length: 45cm, Tail length: 43cm, Weight: Female: 2.1kg, Male: 2.4kg.

Physical description
Greater bamboo lemurs have a reddish-grey body, with a blunt face and white ear tufts.

Distribution
They live in Ranomafana, Madagascar

Habitat
As their name suggests, greater bamboo lemurs live in bamboo thickets.

Diet
98 per cent of their diet is made up of bamboo stems, but they also feed on flowers, leaves, soil and fruits.

Behaviour
They are active throughout the day and night, but activity peaks at night. Greater bamboo lemurs are arboreal.

Reproduction
Little is known about their reproductive history, but births peak in November.

Conservation status
Greater bamboo lemurs are in the Critically Endangered category of the IUCN Red List.
