Douc langur, red-shanked douc langur
These langurs live in the forests of Asia, but are at risk of becoming extinct.
Head and body length: Female: 59cm, Male: 58cm. Tail length: Female: 58cm, Male: 68cm. Weight: Female: 8.2kg, Male: 10.9kg.
Douc langurs have a grey back and grey under-parts, with black hands, feet, brow, upper legs and shoulders. The cheeks and throat are white, and the knees and lower legs are orange/red. The face is red/brown with a white muzzle.
They inhabit Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and China.
Douc langurs inhabit primary and secondary tropical rain forest.
They feed on leaves, flowers, buds, seeds and fruit.
Douc langurs live in multimale-multifemale groups with two females to one male, and males being dominant to females. They are diurnal and arboreal and move quadrupedally.
Females have a gestation period of 165-190 days.
The IUCN classify the douc langur as Endangered.
