Booted macaque
Macaca ochreata
Due to their dog-like muzzles, macaques are sometimes known as dog-apes. This is a misnomer, as macaques are monkeys, and not apes.

Physical description
Booted macaques have grey fur on their forearms and hind limbs, with a black body and a grey rump patch. The infants are brown and change to black gradually.

Distribution
Booted macaques inhabit Sulawesi (Indonesia).

Habitat
Their preferred habitat is tropical forest.

Diet
Booted macaques feed on figs, bamboo seeds, buds, sprouts, invertebrates and cereals.

Behaviour
They are diurnal (active during the day) and spend the majority of their time in the trees.

Reproduction
The reproductive behaviour of this species is unknown.

Conservation status
The conservation status of booted macaques is listed as Data Deficient by the IUCN Red List.
