Celebes moor macaque
Macaca maura

Due to their dog-like muzzles, macaques are sometimes known as dog-apes. This is a misnomer, as macaques are monkeys, and not apes.

None.

Life span
Celebes moor macaques have a lifespan of 28 years.

Statistics
Body length: 50-58.5cm, Weight: Not known.

Physical description
Celebes moor macaques have brown to dark brown/black body fur. They have a pale brown/grey rump patch, and pink ischial callosities (bare skin on the rump).

Distribution
Celebes moor macaques inhabit Sulawesi (Indonesia).

Habitat
They live in tropical forest.

Diet
This species feeds on figs, bamboo seeds, buds, sprouts, invertebrates and cereals.

Behaviour
Celebes moor macaques live in multi-male, multi-female groups. They are active during the day, and spend their time both in the trees and on the ground.

Reproduction
After a gestation period of 162-186 days, females give birth to one young, which weighs about 450g at birth.

Conservation status
Celebes moor macaques are classified as Endangered by the IUCN Red List.
