Physical description Gulf porpoises are a variable dark grey/brown colour. They have a prominent shark-like fin, and dark eye and mouth patches. Gulf porpoises lack a beak. Like all porpoises, they have spade-shaped teeth (as opposed to conical in dolphins).
Distribution Gulf porpoises live in the Gulf of California.
Diet They feed on fish and squid.
Behaviour Gulf porpoises live in groups of 1-25.
Conservation status They are listed as Critically Endangered by the 2000 IUCN Red List.
Notes Gulf porpoises are renowned for being very shy.
