Ginkgo-toothed beaked whale
Mesoplodon ginkgodens

The teeth of this whale are shaped like the leaf of a ginkgo tree, and are around 10cm wide.

Subspecies
None.

Life span
Unknown.

Statistics
Body length: 4.7-5.2m, Weight: 1.5-2 tonnes.

Physical description
Ginkgo-toothed whales have a blue/black body (male has white blotching around the naval). They have a smoothly sloping forehead, and an arched lower jaw. They have a small, pointed dorsal fin.

Distribution
Ginkgo-toothed whales inhabit the North Pacific and Indian Ocean.

Diet
They feed on squid.

Behaviour
The behaviour of ginkgo-toothed whales is largely unknown, but they possibly live in pairs.

Conservation status
Ginkgo-toothed beaked whales are classified as Data Deficient by the 2000 Red List.
