Finding a ghost of a lady
As dawn breaks over the vast rolling sand dunes of the ancient Namib Desert, you'd be forgiven for thinking this is a pretty lifeless place. But as the first rays of the morning sun hit the dune slopes, the evidence of life is plain to see. Almost everywhere tiny footprints are picked out by the long shadows, evidence of the struggle for life that takes place every night on these dunes. Without these clues to life and where it hides during the day we filmmakers would have no chance of tracking down our stars; Namibia's fabled white lady spiders. But film makers aren't the only spider-hunters on these remote dunes. These spiders have a remarkable adversary in the form of a small black wasp. This little wasp not only manages to dig out these spiders without any tools, but it can find the hidden burrow by scent alone. The wasp will then spend over an hour in the morning sun furiously digging an enormous crater in its attempt to get to the spider lying deep below but when it does the battle is by no means over and the spider still has another trick or two up its sleeve...
