As the English Summer began to warm up, so did our schedule. The office was buzzing with trips to every corner of Africa.

Cameraman Martyn ColbeckThe Virungas are a chain of volcanic mountains that run along the border of Rwanda and Uganda. They're one of the last strongholds of the mountain gorilla. Cameraman Martyn Colbeck hiked off into thick jungle with consultant Ian Redmond and local guides. Listen to Martyn's audio diary account of his first sighting of a gorilla.

 Meanwhile "Jungles" producer Andrew Murray and assistant producer Anna Mike were heading off with their crew to another jungle in the heart of Central Africa. Equatorial Guinea saw few tourists let alone film crews and so the challenge was on, but jungles are always tricky places to work. Read an extract from cameraman Richard Kirby's trip diary.
