Pip Lawson
We began filming for the Wild Africa series in September 1999. Over the following 18 months of filming, we used 1,500 rolls (600,000ft) of film and travelled to 22 countries on 53 trips. It involved 26 camera people, a production team of 16 and about 140 scientists and field assistants.
Through video sequences and audio clips, this diary takes you behind the scenes during those months of filming. Researcher/assistant producer, Pip Lawson, uses the teams personal accounts to reveal how the team tackled the challenges of filming across a vast and varied continent to uncover the beauty and drama of Wild Africa.
Immerse yourself in the sounds of the savannah, or the heart of the jungle, experience the thrills of canoeing down the Zambezi, or filming aerials over Mount Kenya, and watch unique footage of a rare bird, picathartes. Let us take you on an adventure.
