We were using a high speed, infrared video camera to capture bats and moths 'communicating' to each other in an aerial battle that takes place in pitch darkness. As far as I know this technique has never been used before for wildlife filmmaking and because of this brought huge technical problems with lights, power, and the camera itself. The bats were the stars and performed much better than the equipment - whistling around and grabbing the moths right in front of the camera lens. They would then strip them of their less appetising wings and eat them on the roof above us. Sitting in the pitch dark behind the camera I could feel a constant drizzle of invertebrate body parts!
