Keiko the killer whale, star of the Free Willy films, is set free
History
The Animal Hospital team travelled further afield in the last series and is planning other similar adventures this year. This is partly due to news events and partly to the number of queries and responses we receive via email. This year, we'll be going even further with a trip to Hong Kong planned for later in the series.

Our 2002 Sarajevo feature came about through a viewer who contacted the website with Mustafa Mrkulic's story. The response from viewers was so great, Jamie Darling decided to return to see how the shelter has developed in the last nine months.

Earlier in 2002, Jamie visited Kabul Zoo in Afghanistan to meet Marjan, a 25 year-old lion who had lived through five separate wars and was a symbol of the pain and the hopes of the Afghan people during a tumultuous and agonizing time. Jamie also travelled to Norway in 2002 to watch the release of Keiko the killer whale, star of the Free Willy films. Keiko had been in captivity for more than 20 years and his return to the wild was a significant operation.

Jamie goes to the Hebrides

Animal welfare issues are pretty much the same all over the UK, but how they're dealt with can depend on where you are. In Scotland, the terrain poses a challenge for the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the SSPCA. We sent Jamie Darling to the Hebrides to find out more.
Hong Kong
more
Animal Hospital receives many emails from viewers asking what the RSPCA do on an international scale. RSPCA International works closely with other animal welfare organisations whose objectives match its own so Jamie Darling visits Hong Kong to find out how the SPCA there works.
Northern Ireland
more
Jamie Darling visits Northern Ireland to see how animal welfare issues are dealt with by the USPCA. The lack of adequate laws here means you need a license for a dog, but can keep a wolf or a tiger as a pet. But what happens when they become too much to handle?
Sarajevo Revisited
more
In the first programme of the new series, Jamie Darling returned to Sarajevo. Since Animal Hospital profiled the shelter last year, following an email sent to the website, thousands of people have donated money to Mustafa Mrkulic's project. Find out how it has helped.
