Atlantic salmon and trout are found largely in European waters. Only the Atlantic salmon has a range that extends as far as north America. There are some pretty amazing fish in this group, some migrating across thousands of miles of open ocean and returning to spawn at almost the exact location they were spawned. Others live their entire lives in freshwater. Many of the 30 or so species in this genus are well-known to fishermen and anglers, including the widespread Atlantic salmon and brown trout.
