Introduction What you'll explore Master the challenge Take it further
Your challenge
Your mission is to explore the British coastline, discover the animals that live in the different shore zones and gain an understanding of the hazards facing life in these harsh habitats.

You can complete this mission in either of the two ways below.
You can play the Flash game, Life on the Edge, or you can play The Coastlines Quiz.

Life on the edge Requires flash 4 Life on the Edge
You are Professor Skylar and you are about to be miniaturised! You must travel over rocky shores, shifting dunes and sandy beaches to reach your journey's end.

Your goal is to answer key questions at the end of each of five zones. You'll be looking for the animals, plants and hazards that characterise each zone.

You only have four lives, so make sure you investigate each zone thoroughly.

Play the game

The coastlines quiz
There's another way to explore the seashore
(and it doesn't require a plug-in).
Answer 20 questions and learn about life on the edge.

Find out what makes the coastlines such tough places to live. You'll also learn about zones and what defines each step up the rocky coast, dune and sandy shore.

Play the game

Saline water is water that contains more than 0.1 per cent salt by mass.

For both of these, you'll only be able to see your scorecard and get feedback if you have registered and logged in.
