This annual plant is also known as samphire. It has no identifiable leaves, but its succulent pale green stem bears fleshy, segmented branches. The small flowers appear close to the stem and are difficult to spot. Glasswort grows up to 35cm tall and when in fruit the whole plant turns red or purple.
