Until the release of her first solo record Lisa Hannigan was best known as an accompanist and backing vocalist for singer-songwriter Damien Rice, but since then has built a devoted following among musicians, critics and fans alike. Sea Sew has already been nominated for several other prizes in her native Ireland as well as achieving significant success in the US.

An entirely beautiful album of exquisite music and vocals from a hugely talented and modest woman and her fellow musicians .
Together they have produced the album of the year and would be worthy winners of this Mercury award and many others .

I saw Lisa Hannigan her band performing at the Union Chapel in Islington last week; their performance was mesmerizing. "Sea Sew" is an absolutely outstanding album, and the nomination for the Mercury album of the year award has been well earned.

We saw her at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds and she was captivating, modest and obviously multi-instrumentally talented. A totally unmanufactured and fresh performance with some previews of some beautiful new sounds one hopes will make her follow-up album. Go Lisa!

I love the whole experience of Lille. Lisa Hannagan's voice and music is so beautifully expressed, fully dimensional, reaching deep inside and connecting to joy and pain in equal measure. Lille is beautifully constructed and yet wonderfully simple. Her voice is an amazing instrument and resonates from her extraordinary spirit. A simple line tells a story through her unique way of using not just her voice but all of her self.
