Piping within Edinburgh City Police, as the force was formerly known, began in 1882 with the band having the distinction of being the first police pipe band to win the coveted World Championship title at Dunoon in 1919.

This year sees the band's pipe section under the charge of new Pipe Major, Ian Duncan, who is ably supported by Pipe Sergeant Neil Hall. The band's drummers continue to be led by former World Solo Drumming Champion, Drum Major Arthur Cook.
