The band was formed in 1929 as the Auckland and District Highland Pipe Band and adopted the Hunting Menzies tartan in honour of its first Pipe-Major, George Cowper.
The band is the current New Zealand Champion Pipe Band, successfully defending the title in March 2010. Currently led by Pipe Major Martin Frewen and Drum Sergeant Glenn Miller, the band performs at numerous parades, concerts, recitals and competitions during the course of the year.

How fantastic that Auckland and District have qualified for the finals of the worlds. Well done to you all...you are fantastic representatives of New Zealand. We are very proud of you. And well done to the BBC for their fantastic coverage that allows us in New Zealand to watch all the performances.
