• Burnley high on emotion 6:32pm on 22 Aug 2009 A lot of talk about why Man U lost and not why Burnley won. We won because we outplayed them - simple as that. We wanted the win more. We didn't stop singing inside the ground. We deserved to win from any sane, objective viewpoint.
  Great blog Phil, and it's good that there is a lot of neutral support for Burnley because our beautiful game HAS suffered at the hands of the money men, and our club gives everyone a glimmer of hope that a good hardworking team with an inspirational manager can cut it with the best teams in the world.
• Ancelotti's reality check 1:01pm on 10 Jul 2009 Terry would never leave Chelski...he's just doing a Gerrard and holding out for a fatter weekly return. To their credit, Chelski are aware of this and hence Ancelotti's statement throwing the ball into the Terry court of loyalty and honour. JT spends a lot of time insisting he's blue through and through - just as long as the money keeps flowing. Forget about the new manager's ironic streak - this is the true irony.
• Who will be market movers? 10:20am on 30 Jun 2009 Now that the reality of the top flight has sunk in, things seem to have changed somewhat. I feel like James Stewart returning to Bedford Falls or Marty McFly confronted with his alternate future of greed and money engineered by Biff. The money being thrown about is quite frankly disgusting. It seems the power within the Prem League lies squarely with the Top Four. For years now, the remaining sixteen teams have been content to turn a blind eye to the introduction of a continental league via the back door. They shuffle their feet and look to the ground, simply grateful that they are in the Premier League. What happened to competition? Max Mosely may be an egomaniac, but he has a point about restricting budgets in order to level out the pitch a bit. If the 'rest' of the Premier League teams are happy to be the Top Four's whipping boys season after season, why not just sanction and expedite the creation of a European Super League, and allow the remainder of the teams to have some decent competition, for a proper title - not just for a UEFA cup spot?

For the less initiated, I would recommend Blue Blell Knoll above this as a more mainstream introduction, but it takes not an iota away from this magical piece of melodiousness....

I think Heaton achieved things here that simply weren't approached with 'Beautiful South' dinner party fodder. There's an innocence to this as opposed to the contrivances of the latter Heaton Hemingway experiments. One of the best.

• The fallout from Setanta's collapse 11:43am on 24 Jun 2009 I think it's disgraceful that the BBC can afford every web-based gimmick tecnology has to offer, hours and hours of banal soaps, but can't offer us any live football on TV. What on earth is going on Mr Bose? There are plenty of 'commentators' and 'pundits' and 'sport editors' but no actual football (the country's primary sport) on the country's national service broadcaster network. THAT is the true disgrace.
