NEWS: eBay backs down

From Radio 1's Newsbeat

14 June 2005

eBay have backed down over users selling Live 8 tickets on their site in the face of furious criticism from the concert's organiser Bob Geldof.

The online auctioneers have taken the tickets off the site after Bob slated them and branded ticket sellers "scum".

Some bids were reaching upwards of £1,000 each.

The company initially said they were doing nothing wrong but today there are no tickets available on the site.

Bob says he's not surprised eBay climbed down in the end because he wasn't the only one outraged by what they were doing:

"What they were doing was behaving like electronic pimps and they were making money on the back of the weakest people on our planet."

"I think I was able to articulate the outrage that clearly the media felt."

"People were just so sickened by what they were doing that it created an awful lot of problems."
