Sly and the Family Stone Stand! Review

Album. Released 1969.

BBC Review

A landmark album for funk music.

David O'Donnell 2008

Following the success of the record, Sly & The Family Stone managed to secure themselves a spot on the line-up for the infamous Woodstock festival in the latter part of 1969 where it is claimed they made one of the best performances of the festival. Not an easy feat given that they performed alongside Santana, The Who and Jimi Hendrix.

Although the success of the album led to problems within the band, one cannot deny that as well as being a pinnacle of Sly & The Family Stone's career, it is also a landmark album for funk music.
