Play It Again: Bill Oddie grapples with the electric guitar

Wildlife enthusiast and former Goodie Bill Oddie sets out to see if he can fulfil his dream of being a rock guitarist.

Bill Oddie's Musical Journey

Wildlife enthusiast and former Goodie Bill Oddie has always dreamt of being a rock guitarist. Though he can’t read music and is very undisciplined, Bill learns guitar from scratch with the aim of joining his daughter’s band. But with no-nonsense guitar teacher Bridget Mermikides Bill soon finds out that though practice makes perfect it also makes for blisters on fingers, takes time, and eats into a frantic work schedule.

In a rare glimpse into the Oddie household, Bill's daughter Rosie watches her father's progress and frustration as he gets tries to grips with guitar classics. But teacher Bridget's tough learning programme takes its toll on Bill. After facing the challenge of playing at an international guitar festival in Bath he decides it's time to drop the tutor and go solo.

Seeking help and advice from rock legends such as The Kinks' Dave Davies and Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler he pushes on with his dream of being the guitar player in Rosie's band. Can he make it on his own?
