Tackling your child's musical development can seem a daunting task: where to begin, what do I need to know, who can help, how do I find out? Most of us, even those of us who consider themselves musical, can find it all a bit much. But it needn't be.
Every one of us is musical: parent, carer and child alike. You may not play an instrument or read music, but that doesn't mean you can't sing in the bath, hum along to the radio, or get great pleasure from music. Whether you love pop or opera, punk or Puccini, bebop or Bach - it doesn't matter. If you are passionate about music, your enthusiasm is sure to communicate itself. What is more, no-one knows your child better than you do. You are best placed to encourage them, and help them get the most out of music.
We often think we don't know where to start, especially if we think we are not musical ourselves. The Parents' Music Room aims to give you a road map to the information and resources you need.
There are lots of things you can do to encourage your child's musical development. The Parents' Music Room is full of good ideas for ways you can pass on your passion for music; stimulate their imagination and creativity; help them with their music education; and most of all, have fun together.
The links and resources will give you a guide to some of the best music education resources on the Web. If you are concerned about more general parenting issues, the BBC Parenting site has more advice and help.
