Music To Make Your Child's Party Swing

The first year at school is generally quite busy with birthday parties. You may want to hold one yourself - but remember what you are letting yourself in for! A house full of five - seven year olds can be hectic so have other adults on hand to help out. Make sure they are adults you know well. As with any party, music is the necessary ingredient to liven things up a bit so here are some handy hints to help you give your child a great party.

Kate had a disco for her 7th birthday and it was so simple - a cheap set of lights and the latest pop compilation and they all loved it.

Musical Steps
Musical Steps

Musical chairs with a difference - a fun game to play in the garden:
  • Buy some different coloured packets of crepe paper
  • Cut the paper into squares about 30cm by 30cm
  • Work out how many children you have playing the game and have a square per child and take away one
  • Pop on some music and as the children dance stop the music, and last one to find a coloured square to land on is out
  • Keep taking away a square per round and the person on the last square wins
  • Please note: keep play away from sharp objects and hard surfaces
Top Tips for a children's disco:
  • Put away your breakables
  • Give your pets to a friend or a neighbour
  • Buy the latest pop compilation CD to save buying singles
  • Hire some cheap disco lights
  • Don't wear the children out - let them have breaks
  • Don't let them dance on a full stomach!

Top five songs to play at a children's disco:
  1. S Club Juniors 'One Step Closer'
  2. S Club 7 'Reach'
  3. Baha Men 'Who let the dogs out?'
  4. Atomic Kitten 'Whole Again'
  5. Robbie Williams 'Rock DJ'

More Ideas
  • Guess the advert, or TV programme. Play the music from an advert, or a TV theme and the children have to say which product or programme it belongs to.
  • Pop Quiz - Fancy dress - "Come as your favourite pop star"? (and be prepared to mime!)
