Best Instrumentalist Award

2005 Winner - Peter King
2006 Winner - Alan Barnes

Julian Siegel

WINNER - Julian Siegel

Julian Siegel's distinctive approach to the saxophone has led to employment with the late Andrew Hill, Steve Lacy and Brazilian jazz legend Hermeto Pascoal as well as pretty much everyone on the current UK scene. His most recent trio with the American heavyweight rhythm section of Joey Baron and Greg Cohen caused a bit of a stir last year, whie his own bands (including the critically acclaimed Partisans he co-leads with Phil Robson) remain some of the most engaging outfits in the current wave of British talent.

Gwilym Simcock

Gwilym Simcock

Gwilym Simcock is the first jazz musician to be chosen as one of Radio 3's New Generation Artists. His lyrical, yet deeply swinging playing has graced bands such as Acoustic Triangle and Bill Bruford's Earthworks. His own projects variously include a quintet with Stan Sulzmann and a big band; plus he will be the featured soloist on Mark Anthony Turnage's new commission for the London Sinfonietta.
