Jazz on 3 Innovation Award

2005 Winner - Huw Warren
2006 Winner - Tim Garland

Tom Bancroft

WINNER - Tom Bancroft

Tom Bancroft has been a key mover and shaker on a remarkably inventive Scottish jazz scene for many years as a drummer, composer and creative catalyst. Recently he has extended his innovative range with Kidsamonium, a show that absorbs, inspires and entertains children of all ages (and their parents), combining jazz, improvisation, theatre and comedy and bringing the talents of musicians such as Oren Marshall, Claude Deppa, Laura MacDonald and Billy Jenkins into a whole new dimension.

Soweto Kinch

Whether live or on record, Saxophonist/MC Soweto Kinch bursts with ideas that speak directly to all kinds of people. 'A Life In The Day of B19: Tales Of The Towerblock' (Dune) kicks jazz and rap into a brave new world, with dizzying, courageous leaps from hip-hop to post-bop. (John L. Walters)

Evan Parker

Evan Parker

Now in his seventh decade Evan could be called an elder statesman of the UK avant garde; he has been a forward-thinking member of the jazz scene in this country since the late 1960s. However he shows no sign of resting on his laurels and settling down into a comfortable dotage. Indeed Parker is a model for younger players, with his open-minded, inclusive and innovative approach to the music. It is no exaggeration to say that over the last 30 years Parker has developed the technique and language of jazz saxophone at least as much as Charlie Parker and John Coltrane did in their day.
