Maida Vale Weekender 2010

In February 2010, we took over the legendary Maida Vale studios for two days of live sessions with some of the hottest up-and-coming artists from all over the UK. Backed by our family of radio shows, fourteen acts got the chance to record three of their songs.

Louise Golbey

Louise Golbey ~ Championed by BBC 1Xtra's Ras Kwame, the soulful songstress charmed the crowd on our stage at Glasto 09.

Straight Lines

Straight Lines ~ Tourmates with The Automatic, these Pontypridd boys come recommended by Radio 1's Bethan Elfyn.

MidiMidis

MidiMidis ~ The BBC Berkshire-supported brothers-in-law fuse guitars with 8-bit blips & beats from ZX Spectrums, Amstrads and Sony PSPs. Genius.

The Mouse Outfit

The Mouse Outfit ~ Chosen for the weekender by BBC Manchester and 1Xtra, this hip-hop collective get seriously jazzy.

Crucibles

Crucibles ~ This Hull quintet uploaded their great track Crosswords to us and were broadcast by BBC Introducing in Humberside.

MS Darks

MS Darks ~ This London MC has been crafting her own tracks since the age of 12. Now 18, she's working with Whiz Kidd records on her first album.

Violet Violet

Violet Violet ~ Jagged sounds that recall Lush and Sleater Kinny from this BBC Norfolk-supported riot grrrl duo.

Django Django

Django Django ~ The missing link between Hot Chip and The Beta Band? Maybe. These Edinburgh/London boys know how to make a good stomp.

Viva Sleep

Viva Sleep ~ Raw, emotional, never unhinged. These Wiltshire boys have crafted a huge, progressive rock sound.

We Show Up on Radar

We Show Up on Radar ~ Deliciously surreal acoustic pop, both downbeat and delirious. Championed by The Beat's Dean Jackson in Nottingham.

JK ~ JK has been supported by Asian Network's Bobby Friction and 6 Music's Tom Robinson.

Nixa ~ Gutsy London rockers with support from Tom Robinson on 6 Music as well as XFM, Total Rock and Kerrang!.

LeaLea Jones
