Line-up and Artists: Primal Scream
Primal Scream played on Sunday. Check our line-up & artists section to find out which stage and who else played.
Bobby Gillespie formed the band in the mid-'80s while drumming for goth-tinged noise rockers the Jesus and Mary Chain. They produced a couple of indie pop albums on Creation records which secured a small but loyal fanbase. But it 1991 the band reinvented themselves, with the aid of name remixers such as Andrew Weatherall, and created the ultimate indie pop and dance fusion album, 'Screamadelica'. The album was a massive success, winning the first Mercury Music Prize in 1992.
They've never quite matched that glorious album but have continued to release critically acclaimed records. Michael Eavis has asked the band to play a greatest hits package on the Pyramid stage so a good time should be guaranteed.

Primal Scream are an awesome band, and a greatest hits set should be a real stonker to sing slong to. Personally I'm gonna turn-up for the scream team and leave before Basement Jaxx get on stage - I can't stand them.

I've seen 'Primal Scream' several times and they are without doubt the best live band ever. Don't miss them! You will never forgive yourself!!!!

Screamadelica album was great, but, Xtrmntr is the best album - fact... admittedly it's a grower....better live your ears will bleed...

I love Primal Scream, they are one of the most under rated Rock 'n' Roll bands ever. I have seen the scream twice and both times they have blown me away and Mani is a quality bloke
Rick, Manchester
i just hope they are better than they was when they headlined on fri 97

sorry but primal scream were totally embarassing - along with ian brown & new order they sounded terrible & couldn't get any atmosphere going - sadly compared to kasabian or kaiser chiefs they were rubbish - and they knew it
jim, brockley
What a relief when they were escorted off stage - absolute rubbish!
Kevin, London
Primal Scream at Glastonbury.... hmmm.... they weren't very good. Bobby Gillespie seemed intent on winding the crowd up - Nazi salutes included. Now I don't want to accuse anyone without good cause, but I was there and I'm pretty damn sure what I saw - a friend with me said he saw the same. I'd like an explanation from Gillespie of just exactly what it was he thought he was doing..... ??

What a dissapointment?!!! Hate to say it but they were rubbish and got booed off the stage!

Primal scream were great in their day but that day ended ten years ago. Where once they were huge sounding and emotional they are now thin and garagy, where once Bobby's soul pushed his average voice to beauty now he sounds like he doesn't care. They try to walk the walk but they sound like they should have a zimmer frame.
John Entwistle, SG14
They might be awsome but a bit of gratitude never went a miss in front of tens of thousands of people who turned up to see you - f'off, two fingers and flying mike stand, how very rock and roll, zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Primal Scream were great on Sunday at Glasto even though Bobby was off his tree & abusive to the crowd!! Rock & Roll!!
Bec, Manchester
that was one of the best and funniest sets i've ever seen, good old bobby.

Primal Scream were FANTASTIC!!!- proper messy and really rocked Glasto like it should be done. Should have headlined instead of Basement Jaxx (which were a bit
too cheesy for mi likin'). Primal Scream forever!!! Other high points were Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party (fat drummin!) Bo!
Tom, Norwich
What a shame that Bobby Gillespie decided to be abusive to the Glastonbury masses - otherwise, it was a very good gig! I'm really not sure why he decided to patronise the enormous crowd that had turned up to see them!I feel sorry for the rest of the band, that their frontman let them down badly!

Oh. My. God. What an absolute shambles. By far the worst band at the festival. There's being rock'n'roll, and then there's being an idiot. Turning up out of your box, forgetting the words, gesturing Nazi salutes at the crowd and verbally abusing thousands of people isn't going to win you any more fans. The only point at which I clapped was when Gillespie was forcibly removed from the stage.

Primal Scream can only be described as an outstanding, awesome and realistic contribution to the "music scene." Belief is what it's all about. We all have the same vibrations to play with so why not use them to portray your passion to it's ultimate high. While ever these men live then they should be on a stage. It won't be long before the "masses" believe in this band. WAKE UP.
Pete Chenery. Sheffield.
Saw primal scream at glasto and it was for me without a doubt the best gig I saw the whole festival.
