Line-up and Artists: Coldplay
Coldplay played on Saturday. Check our line-up & artists section to find out which stage and who else played.
It's only right that Coldplay, biggest band in the world right now, should headline the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night. The release of new album 'X&Y' is set to confirm their status as global megastars. Emily Eavis is a huge fan of the band; they played at the 2002 Make Trade Fair gig in London which she organised.
Coldplay began back in 1998 when the band met at University College, London. Their first album 'Parachutes' was a huge success and was nominated for the 2000 Mercury Prize, but they were pipped at the post by Badly Drawn Boy. Their Friday night headline appearance at Glastonbury 2002 was hailed as the highlight of the festival.

Coldplay has demonstrated in such a short time how beautifully it can get to the top of charts. Album after album released, they have firmly established their position as one of Britain's best ever top rock bands...way to go mates...!!!
Chris Martin's charity work and the band's outlook on present economical and political issues hopes to bring about reforms in government's policies at home and abroad...
A great band overall...11 out of 10...!

i wached coldplay last nite live at glasto and i was rite at the front. they are the best band anyone will ever see live, they just put so much effort in making it look good. COLDPLAY ARE THE BEST NEED I SAY MORE.!!!!!!

I don't care what people say about Coldplay, to me and many others, last night coldplay put a smile on my on my face (pun not intented) and with performances like the one on saturday show's why they are truly amazing.
chis, suffolk.
I only watched Coldplay on telly but it was till amazing and I was still prancing about like an idiot! I really wish that I could've been there. Coldplay are amazing and I don't get how people don't like them. I myself tried to hate them but they are too good. You'd be wasting your life hating them when you could be just loving them like you should. Anyone who says they hate or dislike Coldplay is in denial. They are one of the greatest bands ever to walk the earth.
Lauren, Sheffield
I think Coldplay are a very good band and I think their political stance is admirable, they have done so much to highlight the make trade fair campaign. However perhaps Chris Martin might consider it slightly 'knobheadish' to be promoting the 'make trade fair' logo on his hand and piano but wearing adidas trainers on his feet . . .?
Jasper, Guildford
I quite happily parted with my hard-earned cash for their new CD X&Y; I don't mind supporting their hollywood lifestyle. After all, they're tallented & make great music. Who am I to begrudge them fame & fortune? Only I discovered that I can't copy the music onto my MP3 player. My MP3 player follows me round, more faithfully than any boyfriend. We're inseparable. So what's the point of having the CD? I'm not happy!!

not realy sure wether i wanted to go
BUT NOW I DO,
still think though
they are poor mans u2

i am not a grumpy fan that becasue they got popular from AROBTTH thinks they arent good, i dont like the fact some people have done that. They are amazing! Their latest album is one further than before and they really perform for the crowd. I want everyone to like an enjoy the music they produce!!!
Dean Ketley/Durham
Good gig, shame he cant sing.. Studio band I say!
Si, Mcr
WOW!!!HOW GREAT WERE THEY?!! Chris Martin and the guys seem such a friendly band and they are so great!!People who dont think they are need to GET A LIFE COZ THEY ARE BRILLIANT!! It was such a shame that STUPID CRAZY FROG BEAT EM 2 NUMBER 1!! They deserve to b number 1 coz they were amazing last night.
hannah rochester
Coldplay were out of this world last night! I could listen to it again and again! Please please bring out a DVD so i can. Chris Martin puts everything into his performance which is another reason why it's so entertaining to watch and listen to.
Hannah, Manchester
Coldplay are by far the best band around at the moment.I think that we have needed a band like Coldplay for many years now. Chris,Johnny, Will & Guy are so talented as they have shown us in there more recent gigs, we have Guy who is very capable of playing the harmonica like the other members of the band but more interestingly the keyboards & synth too. Will is a much improving drummer and is learning to play piano, he is also a very good guitarist and maybe somewhere in the future they may just showcase his guitar playing capability on stage or in the studio. As for Johnny he makes such great sounds out of that guitar he reminds me of David Gilmour from Pink Floyd.Johnny makes it look so easy.Chris is just amazingly modest and as long as he and the band are making mammoth albums like the 3 already released they will continue to take a hold on more intelligent and mature people around the world.I will be there to see them in Bolton and I cant wait as I have travelled from Australia to see them for what will be the 2nd time.
Clint Perth Australia
coldplay are the best band ever! planning to go to glastonbury next year, watched them last night, a friend of mine is there and she said it simply was absolotuly amazing. i know it will be a once in a life time experience
Sal
I couldn't go to glastonbury, but I watched coldplay on TV and it was just beyond amazing they were so awesome I really can't describe the vibe I got from the gig I would've LOVED to have been there it must've been a million times better.
Juliana, Cambridge
Watched Coldplay last night on the TV and I was blown away completely- they are sooo what Glasto is all about! Hey and for all those "I used to like Coldplay but now" people out there- I was a bit like that too after AROBTTH, but you should just embrace the mainstream, it means you're not as bloody grumpy!!! They deserve all the success that comes their way- 'Fix You' should be an anthem for our time!
Niamh, Belfast
Pant wettingly great!!
Wiggy/England
Anyone who dismisses Coldplay as another fad of the public is I think very much mistaken. They performed fantastically, playing their greatest songs plus new ones too. Chris Martin was ever the performer, losing himself in his music as he so often does and that is what endears him to many fans. How could you not enjoy it, it was enchanting.
Beth, Worcestershire
Don't really have a viewpoint about coldplay musically but I found Chris Martins comment prior to "Don't Panic" last night to be very interesting. He called those cynical about Live8 to be "kn*bheads". I was immediateley reminded of George W. Bush's stance on the war on terror - "You're with us or against us". Whether Chris Martin meant to or not, he seemed to imply that if you dont support Live8, you dont care about dropping the debt and are happy for African peoples to suffer. If cynicism exists toward Live8, it is rooted in the belief that one (albeit huge)gesture of political goodwill is not going to tackle the labyrinth of problems afflicting the African continent, of which corruption, genocide and an aids epidemic are but only a few.
Andrew, Sheffield
I think Coldplay are the best around and they are really professional at there music and i think Chris Martin is so good lookin and sexy, he does it for me everytime. I also think their albums are great.
Laura, West Midlands
I saw headline bands in the 70s play at large outdoor gigs whose performances were grand and inspiring. By contrast, Coldplay's performance at Glastonbury was monotonous and uninspiring (and actually not that good, musically). The "biggest rock band in the world"? By today's standards maybe. I'll stick with my memories of festivals featuring The Who (with the inimitable Keith Moon on drums) and the Rolling Stones anyday.
Oldie, Milton Keynes
I am usually into the dance and urban sound. I have enjoyed a few of Coldplays previous tracks.
But Coldplay last night (in my opinion) was totally awesome.
From start until the end they gave it their all and rocked glastonbury.
Great New Album too.
Dan, Walsall
their new album i SSSOOO good.granted all their tracks do sound pretty similar, but if thats your type of music, your laughing!they absolutly blew me away at Glasto on saturday, and i wasnt even there!!!
Mattie,norfolk
Saw Coldplay on TV last night, knew they'd make my day and they did.Chris dances like a loon,Johnny laughs at his "there's something stuck in my pants" routine,Will pounds perfectly and Guy-the perfection of prettiness- plays the bass in that sexy way only he knows how. I'm going to hopefully see them next Saturday at live 8.Can't wait. U2? Pah. So Coldplay are VERY similar to U2,but their ripping-off is one that I can stand because they do it with so much more heart and feeling than U2 have ever managed. World domination? There'll be aliens on Mars bopping along to "Politik" in no time.
Jas
coldplay are one of the most amazing band and are certainly not dull. stop putting them down at let them have their moment which they deserve
toad, cambridge
nah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
steve crewe
Good! If they keep the same formula then I'm all for that. Radiohead started with some awesome anthems and then went all artsy-fartsy and it was a struggle to bother and try to listen/understand. Some people just want a good tune not a lesson in existenialism.
Love live Coldplay. This British need to topple people the more succesful they get is pathetic too. Get over yourself, its JUST MUSIC.
Alan. Guisborough.
OASIS SUCK. that is why they were NOT selected to headline. no even when kylie pulled out. coldplay put on the most AMAZING and INSPIRING performance last night at glastonbury, it was by far the best performance i have ever seen in my life. they where amazing at entertaining the crowd and chris martins improvisation of his lyrics where simply genius. Chris martin is also a huge part of all of the 'make poverty history' with the new album X& Y being based around a code "make trade fair" i think it was a hugely popular decision to get them to get them to headline. once again... OASIS SUCK and you are all just jelous that they where not selected to headline glastonbury.
Alisdair, nr Glastonbury
The version of Cash's "Til Kingdom Come" was a highlight at Glastonbury.
Fwelker,Cambridge.
A band , who work there way up to what they are now through sheer hard work , you have to love them , and a tribute to kylie minogue brilliance . Make poverty History
LG Newcastle
Coldplay are utter sh*te. They sound the same. There is no experimentation or ambition. Musically they have'nt got any better. As their popularity has grown so has Chris Martins head at an alarming rate. Soon it will be the size of a small planet. But would i live on that planet, no i would not. I would'nt even shit on it. By the way i have heard your new album Coldplay. It is very bland and unexiting. Can't wait till next year when Radiohead release their next album. All Hail Radiohead.
Andy, Coventry
if any of you saw their performance last night at Glastonbury you'd still you insulting tongues....they were awsome! i have never seen a band play a better gig! talentless? how can you even say that! no one could have put on a better show, it had everything! anyone who doesn't like them obviously has never really listened to it, i guess your small minds can not even comprehend the meaning behind the lyrics and the emotions that Chris sings them with! the music is uplifting NOT depressing! it talks of true honest love not some lovy dovy bulls*** like those talentless boy and girl bands that somehow manage to succeed or those R&B stars who sing more about sex than love, they're just after whatever comes their way!
to all those people supportng Coldplay i say you guys are awsome! and have an ear for good music when you hear it!
to all those people who contine to insist that Coldplay are boaring and talentless i say you guys should just crawl back into whatever hole you came from!
Tiff, Dorset
surely everyone can understand why coldplay, one of the biggest bands in the world at the moment, were the obvious choice for the saturday night headline act. it makes sense to me, there are few bands that can match them for a live performance
chris, tavistock
I guess we all have different opinions on many things in life. But too call Coldplay dull in my humble view is rather strange. It's a very a British trait to put down people or organisations that are doing well. One only has to look at recent events at Wimbledon. I think we should be incredibly proud of Coldplay they set a far better example to youngsters than messers Doherty etc. Also there campaigning for such such causes as Poverty must be commended.
I thought they produced a fantastic performance last night. If you listen to there three albums back to back you can see how they have evolved which more than can be said off a certain Manchester band. It was one of the best performances I've seen in a long time.
Manjit, Birmingham
Hey, I'm 52. I've never been to Glasto. I grew up with Genesis and laterly U2 and yes they were of their time. Coldplay, they are of this age. Some of the comments already posted suggest to me that we are living a little in the past. I whatched Coldplay on the TV last night. I thought they were great. Wish I'd been at Glasto. I don't think we brits know when we have a great thing going. Coldplay are currently world beating. How many times have we heard that before and still tried to rubbish the idea or skill? I say support and enjoy, just like all the fans at Glasto did last night.
Rik, Birmingham (Eng)
they are bl**dy amazing.a band that can perform not just to the crowd but to the world.the people that cant make glastonbury.they are such a friendly band that have such an amazing interpertation of music.i feel im missing out when i live 10 or so miles away from glastonbury.i think u all need to pull your head outa your arses.so what they have played before.are u there? stop complaning.there a good band that can perfrom to maximum level.last night they were the greatest ive ever heard.they kept me up till 1.
babs.somerset
Well, after last night, I can safely say that Coldplay are doing something right. Nothing short of spectacular, by far the best i've seen them live (ok, on TV), much better than on their last tour. I am going to the next concert definatly.
J A Lloyd, Chester
A cracking set, Chris is a great frontman with a real connection to the audience. Top marks lads!
Tim, Rochester, Kent
Being new here in UK and being new to British bands, I've only recenly been introduced to Cold Play by a British friend of me. I'd say Cold Play is amazing but I don't know if they are the best. Obvoiusly U2 is very, very good but they are more experienced, too. I think the best of Cold Play is yet to come. There are many sweet songs but those unheard are the sweetest!
Amita, Oxford
The music industry is not about sharing the fame with the next guy and stepping aside when a pathetic minority has decided they are bored of you, they will continue to make fantastic and original music for a long time to come. Why should they stop just because some people think that there are better bands in the world. Everyone seems to think that they must have some sort of whacky original taste in music and can only like bands as long as there small time and relatively un-heard of, i think this should not be the case, with people constantly berating them for making music that is popular. They are still great, leave them alone. Listen to their new album, it is far from a rhash of clocks, it is original.
Phil, West Country
Coldplay are awesome. Been with them from the start and will never leave their music, the music they produce is new and exciting! Ive found this generations U2!!
Dean Ketley/Durham
I wouldn't say they were the best band in the world, who is? but they certainly know how to play well and write quality material. I enjoyed them at Glasto for what they did, spellbinding, awe-inspiring set that saw the crowd placed in the palm of Chris Martin's hand. Their sound isn't revolutionary, but it's still very good and above all we should appreciate 2 things: they're a REAL band and they're brits - that'll do for me. Guys, keep being Coldplay, as you're very good at it!
Lee, Southampton
It doesn't really matter if you don't like them, Tasha, Bob, Jim, Whoever. I'm not totally smitten myself. They do stuff that the Velvet Underground never did, though, and that Arcade Fire are not in a position to: they use the popularity you resent & despise to highlight global issues about trade, debt, poverty and so on. If they make a few halfway decent records in the process then fine, but they are persuading all those 'sheep' you seem to hate to think about giving more to Africa, buying FairTrade, etc. I prefer Anthony & the Johnsons, too, but Jim, "those with a deep knowledge of music"?!? Are you kidding?
I know we never needed (or asked for, well, I didn't) another U2, and if Chris Martin ever achieves a tenth of Bono's arrogance & self-importance it'll be a bit of a shame, but for now they are nobly deploying mediocrity in the service of something bigger than themselves. Which is nice, really, when you think about it.
Big Daddy, Deepest Lancashire
Bland, Unimaginative? Such accusations made by music fans are personal ones of course but the majority think otherwise. They say the facts never lie and Coldplay are on the way to becoming one of the greatest music acts of this generation (2nd fastest selling album of all time)- if they replicate their previous sucess from rush of blood and x&y for a couple more albums then nobody could deny their greatness.. I for one wont bet against them!
Johnny, Wiltshire
You negative lot are all boring. Why bother writing anything at all. Everyone has there own tastes in music, theses boys are more down to earth than most of those stuck up a**holes.
(Oasis)
Adrian, SA
Jim from Newport, i think your statement that "those with a deep knowledge of music" is rather crass. Most people with a genuinely deep knowledge of music understand that music can never be consistent to everyones needs. A modern band, in the end, is judged by the masses and not the critics. Obviously Coldplay's style leave them open to criticism from many music tastes. However it is great to see that a band that is not afraid to be "uncool" and is still popular.
Also, Chris Martin is a talented musician, who has an increasingly impressive range of influences from classical to the mind numbing world of radiohead.
I wonder, Jim, whether (as you have such an in depth knowledge of music) you notice the intricasies that Martin uses (not his producers). For example, in the song "The Scientist" The piano is tuned up a quatre-tone in order to give it a sharper, clearer sound.
If you are not a fan of their style, then do please at least appreciate that they are good live performers.
Michael, Pilton.
All I can say is I am bummed that I was not there to see glastonbury this year especially Coldplay .... but I am chuffed as feck to say that I will be there to see them live at Palace on monday night....Happy days I cant wait. Coldplay are a true class band bring on Monday

Absolute dross. Impersonal. No feel. No swing. Unoriginal. Mind-blowingly boring. The triumph of bland mediocrity over talent.
Ian, SE London
Have been a fan of Coldplay since 2000 & their music is just as good as when I heard them back then!! You cant beat the classic tune of Yellow & their new song Fix You is extremely inspiring!! Looking forward to hearing them on the main stage tonight & watching them in Bolton on July 6th!!
Vicki, Birmingham
Coldplay are awesome but why do they have to clash with razorlight !!!! CAN'T CHOOSE WHO TO LISTEN TO!!!!!!!!!!! :'(
G
yeh some people may think they are boring and dull i think there great and there music has meaning behind the lyrics. and at least they car about 3rd world countries unlik the rich scumbag american rappers who just rap about there car money and girl.
tris l-g, north devon, burington
coldplay are the greatest band to come out of the 21st century. how can you say they are dull. their music is uplifting and its what you need after a hard days work. infact im listening to them now!!

by far the best group in the world. no more needs to be said
kev bully exeter
am listening to coldplay right now and probably allday tomorrow and the next day and the day after that and forever and ever rock on chris big kiss for apple and i suppose the misses . ps u2 are alright as well.

Why is that when a great British group hit the top of the world stage it is time to start pulling them down? It was exactly the same with Oasis, who have just produced a fantastic album, and it will be exactly the same with Coldplay by the looks of things, after reading some of these comments....give the lads the credit they deserve, they ARE at the moment the most popular band in the world. It just seems to be the case that many people are like little sheep and will follow the crowd as to what they think is cool. Sad!
Jerico, Balackpool
It really annoys me when people say Coldplay's music is dull and boring. Their music is beautiful and inspiring
Bob
Coldplay are so dull! Oasis are the best by far at the moment.

Thats the beauty of music, we all have different and varied tastes. For me Coldplay are one of the best bands around and the new album certainly does not disappoint. Cant wait to see their set on Saturday night.
Ade, Stoke-on-Trent
A band that comes from the sticks, has made it big time and is contributing to 3rd world countries...okay, I'll let people have their doubts - but I'm proud of them. Sure, their music is different but their lyrics deal with real issues, they resist living overly extravagant lifestyles, they have respect for people and the display good moral values. It's the best of both! And whether you love them or hate them - they're doing a good thing both in and out of the spotlight and have my support and thanks for entertaining us and making us think & act about world issues.
Tasha, Exeter (ex-Zimbo)
Coldplay, for those with a deep knowledge of music, are unquestionably an average band at heart, despite how much you may want to think otherwise. Greatness and popularity aren't linked - The Velvet Underground didn't top the charts at all, and yet became the most influential band of all time! Coldplay are good at what they, of that their is no doubt, but there are many bands and artists of the moment that are far better - The Magic Numbers, Arcade Fire, Antony and the Johnsons and Rufus Wainwright to name a few.
J A Lloyd, Chester
Coldplay- pah! Lots of hype, lots of fans (apparently) but their lyrics are poor and they sound the same as a lot of other bands.
No class, no proper lyrics, yet they are popular. There are a lot of lesser known, more talented bands in Britain. Stop hogging the limelight coldplay and let some real talent go on show.
Jim, Newport
Coldplay are a breath of fresh air,and in a few years will be classed as the best band in the world.
Eric, Wirral
THEY HAVE ONE SONG.
THEIR APPEARANCE IS FORGETTABLE.
AND THE PONCE CHRIS MARTIN CAN'T SING !

Coldplay are something special, yet more importantly they haven't changed their style for anybody. this does not mean that they are a mainstream band, it just simply means they have stuck to the sound that is much loved by both them and us...going to see them at the reebok stadium july 5th, i cant wait!!!
Brett, Bradford
Coldplay isnt even their real name! Mr Schnatchspant Vertical Wasbottle is what they are known as around here,,,,,get a grip
Tony Blair
these guys are revolutionary - what with clocks and yellow. the beats, the rhythm, the piano - awesome. surely they are the best/second best band at the moment after u2
Saf, London
Im going to see coldplay the best band in the world at the reebok stadium on 5th of july rock on CM and the boys love the new album.
Liam, Burnley
Hi im a 43 year old woman with a 23 year old son and 21 year old daughter. Cold Play? Id never heard of them, but now God help anyone who puts them down! They are a wicked band who deserve all the commendations they can get.
Polly Tidworth Hants
Completely talentless, over commercialised and too much fame and publicity. If this is the best British band in the UK god help us!!!
Jack Dean: Bristol
Saw coldplay in 2002 at Glastonbury, headline act on the friday night. The memory of crowd singing along to yellow and trouble was unforgetable. That set was mainly just Parachutes, with three albums now the set list will be great. Coldplay are one band who understand what glastonbury is all about, they deserve it!
Rob, Bedford
The only band in the world that could replace Coldplay on saturday night are U2, for a band to even come near the global stauts of U2 surely illustrates their amazing musical talent. Why is it that there are always a minority that will criticise bands such as Coldplay who are by far the most talented band i have ever heard bar a select few. You are entitled to your opinion but don't bother putting your views forward unless you are prepared to back up what you have said (Rob, Sheffield).
Joe, Rotherham
Music for bedwetters!
Pete - Cumbria
I was at KOKO in Camden, London recently...one awesome gig....you're going to love them at Glasto this time round...gutted that i didn't get a ticket..but i will be at Crystal Palace on Monday. Have a really cool weekend and enjoy!
Nick, Berkhamsted, Herts.
Saw Coldplay in Marlay Park Wed. night. Pure class! The new album is fantastic and everybody was singing along to the new tracks despite the fact that it has only been on sale two weeks.
Joanne, Dublin
lol at the negativity towards Coldplay, how typically English. Build them up, only to knock them down. Just appreciate a talented band for once. It's either Coldplay or Oasis... One is talented and quite original and the other is Oasis.
Sunderland
As a child of the Britpop era and someone who grew up with the likes of Oasis, Blur, Cast, Ocean Colour Scene etc., one might expect that I'd refute Coldplay as being dull, boring and unimaginative. On the contrary, I think that their music is outstanding. For those lucky enough to have listened to all three albums at length, I think that a fundamental evolution in their music can be seen. I am yet to find another band so capable of producing cracking music yet so personally understated. Furthermore, you rotten foreigners who don't like them, unlucky lads, I think you really need to be British and therefore of a fairly open-minded disposition (ie not jealous buggers)to appreciate these musical legends. Toodle-pip.
Tom, Oakham, UK.
If COLDPLAY and Sir Christopher Martin do not come to Perth in 05/06 I will hang myself! (With a glass of orange juice beside me in homage to Chris.)
John, Perth, Western AUSTRALIA!!
Many professional music appreciators around San Francisco and the remaining Bay Area will berate Coldplay for their obnoxious, monotonous, repetitive and dull sound. They have blatantly shown that they lack a strong and dominant songwriting leader.
Pop status means nothing compared to the credibility of diverse songwriting. Without that, they will only be remembered for a bunch of sales statistics and samey songs.
Example: Blur's albums didn't sell too well here in America, but there is a club here named after them called Popscene. I very much doubt we will see any clubs named after Coldplay ten years from now.
Carlos, San Francisco, California
Dross.
I speak for many, everywhere.
Just saw coldplay last night in marley park, amazing show! great lights but no lasers...."biggest band in the world" i think not, U2 Are!
250 million gross income this year speaks for itself
Buddy, Dublin
This band are not bad, but headliners? The problem is that everything they produce sounds the same. The Zutons and The Killers will make them appear unworthy of their headline status.
Scott, Edinburgh
why not create a superband for the gig ?
roy harper, mike oldfield, and dave gilmour could handle the fretwork, kate bush and enya could handle the keyboards and young master bonham could cope with the percussion work....as mr robert plant vocalised.. they could mayhap do a medley of great amerikan rock songs, after the 2 minutes were up from that session, they could play some real British Muzik!!!
kaosommadawn --- hong kong
Saw Coldplay last night in Dublin - superb - but the best band in the world? Even CM admitted that they were a distant second to the great U2. Thats not to say that they are not great - put on a superb performance last night in the summer sun.
Dan, Dublin
i think jonny from london sounds like a dipicable chap. im off to wear some charity bands

Coldplay are the best band in the world by miles!! Glastonbury would not be the same without the magic of coldplay. You should all be lucky that such a fantastic band have graced your era!!

cant wait to watch coldplay, i am gonna get to the pyramid stage early and sit on my REALLY small chair which I bought from a camping shop by mistake, thinking it was the bigger one. Rock and Roll!

Bland, bland, bland. They're so bland they make chewing on a cushion sound interesting. It seems they target their material on angst-ridden, bed-wetting teenagers. I want music with bite. I propose they cover the Sex Pistol's Never Mind The Bollocks for their next album project. That I would have to hear.
Rob, Sheffield
Very dissappointed with the new album. Nothing original at all. Unfortunately, they are turning into musical magpies like Oasis. Come on Chris, write something original and with better lyrics !
Adam, Birmingham
thank yourself lucky you have been able to get a ticket and enjoy the show live! if you aren't pleased with who is headlining, sell the ticket to someone who is missing out - Coldplay deserve to rock again!! enjoy the show you lucky people
Paul, Tunbridge Wells
DOWN WITH COLDPLAY........THEY HAVE HAD THEIR TIME IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS.....MOVE ASISDE!!!!!
I WOULD RATHER WATCH A DOCUMENTARY ON BODY ODOUR THAN LISTEN TO THEM......COLDPLAY, YOUR TIME IS UP!!!!!!!
DANIEL BORD, CAMBRIDGE
there's a reason why bands become mainstream. it's because loads of people like them. and there's usually a reason why loads of people like something. by all means criticise them for being dreary, dull etc....but accusations of mainstreamism are weak and fairly meaningless.
tom, london
melodies pour out of Chris martin like water from a leaking bucket.COLDPLAY are quite simply the most perfect four piece since THE SMITHS and X&Y only cements that fact......'Fix you' shall be the song to break a hundred thousand hearts as they close their set on saturday.I'm just sorry i don't posses a credit card to be there......Very unfair system in my view.Hope everyone going has a blast and that they spare a thought for the rest of us slouched in front of the box
Jamie , jersey
We all have different tastes, some like Coldplay, some don`t. Personally I think they make superb music. If the music hits the spot then it`s done its job. I recently saw them in Hamburg for the first time and was mightily impressed. Very emotional stuff.
Steve, Hamburg Germany
I thought Coldplay were the new saviours of music after Parachutes, but the last two albums have been nothing more than building society advert music. I'm afraid I agree they are overhyped and they're going through the motions. A bit like REM are now, brilliant and innovative until they became famous (post Green).
Smythyboy/Cumbernauld
colplay are orite..got some good tunes, but are a bit bland, they aint the greatest band in the world right now..its just because there are no other bands hitting the heights at the moment..oasis are back so watch this space as the legends will take over the amateurs
Tom,Stockton on Tees
Devastated I won't be there this year ... that's two I've missed in a row now ... enjoy ! v, jealous and currently down under Brav
Sydney
Coldplay created a new sound...and just a few years later they have emptied the well. They should take their example from a band like U2 who re-invent their sound every album to stay ahead of the rest...
Martin, Sydney
Easily the best band in the world. 3 superb albums!!WHY AREN'T THEY RETURNING TO BRAZIL???????????????????????
Mark, São Paulo
Lets all just say Coldplay are very popular and good obviuosly, and change the subject!
Josh 16 IOW
Dullplay... What is all the hype about? I used to like them but now they are mainstream with a formula for creating popular hits. I heard Chris say that Radiohead has been a big influence but they change their music style on each album. Dullplay keep the their formula. Shame. I wonder how long the public are going to be fooled by them.
Matt, Tooting Bec London
Sssshhh about Coldplay. Get G. Love and special sauce to headline saturday night.
Phylis, Winchester
I tried listening to the Coldplay album but fell asleep after about three songs. What is the hype about this band I struggle to find anything special about them and I would rather spend Saturday in a local farmer's disco, dancing to the Crazy Frog than stuck in a field watching Coldplay.
Simon, Guildford
I don't care about the argument, I'm going to see Kasabian and then make it round sharpish for Coldplay and thats gonna make Sat night something fantastic!!
Rock on Glastonbury!!!!
Roger, Dodgerville
Hello!
Unfortunately I won't be able to come to Glastonbury but my husband and I are going to hear Coldplay in London (Crystal Palace) on June 28th! I am counting the days and I think they are the best band in the world! their music give me goose-pimples everytime I listen to it, it's so full-filling and...I just love them, it's as simple as that...
Chantal, Lutry, Switzerland
Coldplay are always fascinating, I think they are the perfect band for the highlight of the night. Best regards.
Nech, United States
For those persons moaning about Coldplay's appearance this year, may I suggest you go and listen to Chas & Dave in the acoustic tent and leave the rest of us to enjoy!
Josie, Kent
Listen lets just say they're a great band and drop this "biggest band in the world" nonsense. SO journo...
Micka Stockholm
Coldplay have been using the same format to write songs for the last 3 albums. They don't have the song writing diversity that Blur have, and Blur proved it when they headlined in 2003 by playing a back log of classics spanning over 13 years.
My question is, when will people realise that Coldplay's material is too samey?
And yes I agree that Chris Martins high notes are weak. Thom Yorke from Radiohead and Matt Bellamy from Muse have got their high notes "spot on", but I just don't feel any soul from Chris Martin's singing.
P.S The Kaiser Chiefs rocked in California. They played at the BFD Shoreline amphitheatre and completely stole the show!
Carlos - California
to call a band dull and overrated while being a valid opiuion also detracts nothing from the status that they have achevied through there music, the pollitcal activisum and what have been 3 undisputably popular albums
phil, london
Coldpaly are a terrible band whose music is about as interesting as chris martin himself. They bore me and Chris Martin's rather contrived appeals against the lack of fair trade requires a proper platform. It is always a shame when such an important thing is hijacked by a generic ignorant fool, bono i'm looking at you.
Jonny / London
I LOVE LISTENING TO COLDPLAY WHEN IM IN THE BATHROOM WASHING MY ARM PITS!!
DANIEL BORD, CURRENTLY IN BOLIVIA
Best possible headline act! I love the complaints of a band being mainstream, what should they write? Songs that only a few people like? They havent changed there style for us, weve grown to love them! Cant wait to see em, enjoy yourselves people.
Marky Hevo, Middlesbrough
Although at times throughout the album it's probably fair to say that the lyrics miss the mark a little, this doesn't detract from the sound and feel of what is, at the end of the day, a beautifully put together piece of work. They admittedly haven't changed the formula a great deal since 'A Rush Of Blood to the Head', however the formula wasn't broken then, so why try to fix it now? Coldplay were destined to be stadium rockers from the moment they released AROBTTH, and for people now to criticise them based upon their mainstream popularity shows a lack of basic understanding behind the music and and ethics of the band. They worked as hard as any other band to get to the top, now let them enjoy their moment - however long it may last. For those of yuo about to rock at Glasto....I salute you.
Rich, Mirfield.
I'm sorry, but I really think that Coldplay are extremely overrated & dull. What's the hype?
Benson, Leeds
Easily the most over-rated band in recent years. Dreary songs and Chris Martin sings as though he has cream in his throat. The same way that O.B. in Hollyoaks talks. In fact, Coldplay are of about the same quality as Hollyoaks so it's quite fitting really.
Bill, Norwich
Im a fan from Peru, and i like all of coldplays albums, i hope someday they can come to my country. i Hope they make a good new album
Gitana
Giovanna / Lima
i just wanted to say
how happy i am that coldplay
are at the fest
rock on!!!!!
jacob somerset
Undoughtably the best band in years x&y made me pick up my guitar for the 1st time in ages, not going to glasto but hopefully going to see them at live8 where coldplay will be top of my bill, thanks guys for giving me some decent ear candy. Unbeleivable band...
Damian Lewis, Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales
I must say Graeme, Coldplay may have "had their spot", although they do deserve every spot they get! They really excelled themselves with "X and Y" and I personally wish I could be at Glastonbury to see them! So if you decide you dont want your ticket, send it my way!! (",)
Orla, Northern Ireland
all that matters is once everyone starts singing along with chris martin to the end lines of Fix you, it will all be worth it ! tears will flow and the hairs will be standing!!!!!!!!!
east putney-london
I think they will make the perfect headline act for Saturday, I couldn't be happier.
Kirsten, London
IN MY OPINION, CHRIS MARTIN'S VOICE IS JUST SO RELAXING!!! I WAS ONCE IN A SOCIAL CLUB IN NUNEATON AND A WELL KNOWN LOCAL CALLED HUGH O'CONNOR WAS SINGING. HE HAD A VERY SIMILAR STYLE TO CHRIS AND IT WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE HIM SUPPORT ONE OF THE BANDS AT GLASTONBURY!!
IN CONCLUSION, I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SATURDAY NIGHT, COLDPLAY, WE SALUTE YOU!
BARRY ELLIS, SUFFOLK
With the music industry in danger of being taken over by 'wacky' guitar bands its a relief to have coldplay back. with a fantstic new album to showcase and the obvious old hits they are gonna blow glasto away
Cesc Fabregas, Spain (currently in North London)
I have to disagree with Alex. Coldplay have had their spot. If they can't come up with something other than a rehash of clocks then they deserve the criticism. Proof that they indeed are a mainstrem band.
Graeme Lloyd, Merseyside
Personally, I couldn't think of a more appropriate headliner, given what both Chris Martin & the festival stand for. I think it'll be a moving night.
Chris, Darlington
I too would liek to say that it's about time we brought back Morcheeba. I mean...like were are their?
Tableware 45 Gifu, Jakarta
thats strange jack I am also going to see them in california. your not goin to the irvine ampitheatre on 21st of august are you???
may see you there!!!!! Bring on the coldplay boys!!!! I am also missing out on glasto this time as its my grandsons 3rd birthday!!!!!
Rachel Miles
MR O'CONNOR, I TOTALLY AGREE!!! YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY IN TUNE WITH THE CULTURE OF COLDPLAY!
EVERYONE WHO IS GOING TO GLASTONBURY, ENJOY YOURELVES! I WILL NOT BE ATTENDING DUE TO ME TRAVELLING THE WORLD, HOWEVER I WILL BE WATCHING COLDPLAY IN CALIFORNIA IN AUGUST, AND I CANT WAIT FOR A SERIOUS RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD! LOVE AND REGARDS
JACK TERRY, LIVERPOOL (CURRENTLY IN JAPAN)
I am fed up of people who thought coldplay were the business after parachutes but have now suddenly turned against them because of their more mainstream popularity. Keep the faith. Coldplay were made for the Saturday night pyramid slot!
Alex O'Connor, Liverpool
if they can play half as good as in 2002 then it will be a great night.
sean/ brum
well i think they are going to hold their ground on the global level and they deserve the slot, i cant wait!
Eloise, Hobart, Tasmania!
Super Furry Animals would put on a better show, and are consistently overlooked for the top slots at Glastonbury.
Probably be Oasis again next year will it?
Ian Thomas, Miskin, Wales
Yeah i was there and it was pretty good but now i think im over it. Its a little boring for me, maybe im just jealous? i will probably be at another stage on sat night.
Lindsey presently in Australia, from Bath.
Why not get a band we haven't seen at glastonbury before? Its not as though there aren't enough bands...
Jimmy, Cambridge
