Festival Guide: All you need to know about Glastonbury

It's the best festival in the world, but if you forget your wellies or the wet-wipes, forget it! We asked you to let us know the essentials for enjoying Glasto to the full. Here are the best contributions.

What to bring:

Winning Contribution

Steve Woods

BIN BAGS!! Bin bags are a must take essential. You can obviously use the to put all of your discarded beer cans in to keep your campsite clean, but they also have a thousand other use's. They can be used as makeshift ponchos if you get caught in a downpour.
They can also be put on your feet if you somehow manage to forget your wellies! Lay them on the floor and even the muddiest quagmire becomes a seat fit for a festival virgin. And your emergency dry set of clothes stays dry when put in a bin bag. And if you drink a bit to much, you have a portable vomit catcher, to save you a trip to the dreaded port-a-loos! Forget them at you perill!!

Guy

Bring SOMETHING to sit on. It can be anything you like as long as it gets your bum off the ground, ideally a fishing stool as this can be collapsed when your not using it. I didn't realise how important it would be but if it's at all wet which it probably will be then you can't survive without one. Dancing and standing for 3 or more days does get very taxing if you can't sit down.

Matt Burrows

Travel light - you'll regret it otherwise. it's a 30 minute walk from the car park to the main site. then a queue at the main gate then a fair trek to where ever you pitch your tent. You can buy pretty much anything you need on site. WELLIES ARE A MUST - and if you forget, there is a great army surplus place just off the main road 2 miles north of Pilton. Bring a good attitude and you'll fit right in! The best thing I found on my first year (04) was seeing so many random acts of kindness - people helping pitching tents or carrying stuff to complete strangers - it has a real community spirit - it will make you smile!

Michelle Forsyth

Ear plugs and eye patches! to get the most out of your sleeps. With so much to see and do at Glastonbury you don't want to be wasting time sleeping! But you need some to get you through the 3/4 days - It's about quality, not quantity!

Simon Dowdall

Make sure you bring old or newly bought cheap clothes, you may regret ruining that top that cost a bomb!.That way at least you can leave them safeley in your tent and you will still look fashionable in a grungy way!think practical and you'll be ok and remember you are not going to a club!

Natalie

Not to sound like anyone's mum, but bring sunscreen and a hat! There is nothing worse than laying awake at night with burning red skin which makes the inside of your sleeping bag feel like sandpaper. Plus, if you forget then you'll have to buy it onsite and it'll be twice the price!

David Moore

Leave a complete set of clean clothes in the car. On your return on Monday, after the trudge from the site, and covered in all the mud/grass/soil/beer etc you've acquired over the weekend. The sense of release you'll feel as you put on fresh clothes should be enough to focus you getting home or at least to the nearest services.

Ringo

Camp near the outer fence. Bring a solar powered shower. Hang the shower on the fence after about an hour in the sun(hopefully!) bobs your uncle and his mrs is called fancy.

Paul

Only bring what you will not miss if lost/stolen: Baby wipes, contraception, money, plastic bin liners, poncho, sun cream, vitamins,

Francesca Warke

Wet wipes are an essential item, they keep you clean in the unhygenic conditions. Also, bin liners because they are handy for putting muddy clothes n stuff in. Most importantly, money. There are so many cool things to buy!!

Pete the Fire Juggler

Always bring a head torch. Free hands in a dark tent is a major bonus. Fire juggling kit is a must too (maybe thats just me...)

Annemarie Neilson

Everyone should bring a shmangle!
A Shmangle blanket Is a massive blanket that is fleecy on the inside (plus multi-coloured) and waterproof on the outside but with a hood!!!  So you can wear it as a cloak!! You can also use it to keep warm and dry! Plus you and your friends can sit on it to watch bands! : )

Graham, Coventry

Having been to four Glastonbury's, this year will be my fifth.
An item that is very useful (which you would not wear anywhere else!) is a Poncho.
Ideal for keeping you dry if it rains but gives you the freedom to jump around, kind of like a personal tent! Good to sit on 2!

Sally Corney

Bring two warm tops such as fleeces. One to wear the other in reserve and put inside a pillow case makes a good pillow.
