Another year of mud did not dampen the spirits of the 100,500 strong crowd who turned out to see a lineup of 1,000 various performers appearing over 17 stages, including the likes of Foo Fighters, Blur, Robbie Williams and Bob Dylan. In fact, mud surfing proved very popular directly opposing the pristinely white-suited appearance of American singer Tony Bennett. Improved loos and a proper bank made for a better camping experience and over £500,000 was donated to Greenpeace, Oxfam and Wateraid.

Was this the year toilets flooded the dance stage? Nasty! Lots of gems this year: Bentley Rhythm Ace, Way Out West, St Etienne, Jesus and Mary Chain. Even John Otway, bless him, who summed up my ticket: I'm really free!

My sister insisted I watch some little known band called Muse....wonder what happened to them? Bentley Rhythm Ace was brilliant! Dave Grohl was wonderful and kept us up to date with the football scores throughout the gig :-) Nick Cave and ice cream in the rain!

I remember watching England get knocked out of the world cup on a screen with a bin bag on my head. Every time there was a goal the 2 ladies in front of us flashed their boobs at everyone to very loud cheers!

I hitched to Glasto from Liverpool in 1998 as an 18 year old with a mate of mine. To cut a long story short we ended up getting a lift with these lads who picked up 3 girls from whitby, I got on very well with one of them and last year I married her after 11 years together. Glastonbury 1998 changed my whole life upside down and Becky Wilkinson Quinn I love you very muchxx

Yes, your right the doctor (first comment) I heard they were going to use the truck that they use to suck the chemical toilets out to suck out the mud in the dance tent but someone pressed the wrong button resulting in the dance tent being flooded with poo!

Truly awful year. Standing in black torrential rain watching England vs Columbia on Friday night. Site flooded. Mates went back to Camden. I stayed because it was easier than leaving. Only Spiritualized on Sunday night made up for it.

I remember the mud, lots of it. Robbie W was awesome that year, Angels was very memorable. Bloodhound Gang were fun and watching england play with 100,000 people in a field was great. Big Thank to the 2 gorgeous blondes who pushed my car out of the mud, sorry I sprayed you with mud as we sped away.

Nick Cave followed by Pulp doing Hardcore (their best album) was a magical end to this years festival. Was great because my great mate from Australia was over and she LOVES Nick Cave )"Red Right Hand….".
And the mud was deeper than even last year!!!!
