A couple of weeks before Glastonbury Festival '94, the famous Pyramid Stage burnt down. Luckily, a replacement was provided by the the local company who provided the NME and Jazz stages. Channel 4 televised the festival live over the weekend, broadcasting perfomances by Johnny Cash, Bjork and Rage Against the Machine. A new wind turbine provided 150kw of power for the main stage and £300,000 was raised for Greenpeace, Oxfam and other charities. The death of a young man was recorded following a drugs overdose and a shooting occurred on Saturday night, although no-one was badly hurt.

The year of world music: Peter Gabriel, The Whirlygig tent, and enough dogs on string to rope Cerberus. Traveller fashion hits TopShop. I spent much of the festival banging Djemba at the stone circle along with 300 other earth loving hippies. No kidding!

Orbital headlined the other stage on Saturday night and showcased some new material before dropping the classics. I will never forget the noise of the crowd when "Impact" broke it down. The loudest cheer I have ever heard at Glasto before or since and my favourite gig of all time. Cheers P+P Hartnoll. Forget Stevie, I'll see you on the Other Stage Sunday night this year!

My first Glasto. What about The Levellers headlining Friday night they were excellent? Shame they are not in these highlights.
Sunday afternoon in the sun on the NME stage saw Oasis, Cedit to the Nation, Chumbawamba, Pulp and inspirals all in a row.

Have to agree with Duncanthon, for me Impact at Glasters n 1994 was one of those moments, remember standing about 1/2 way back beside a row of 3 mounted police all making shapes to "a cry for survival"
