Following a year without a Glastonbury Festival so organisers could develop better ways to cope with the growing influx of festival-goers, police were brought in to assist with the organisation of the Festival for the first time. 65,000 people paid £28 for a ticket to see The Wonderstuff, Pixies and Suzanne Vega (who played in a bulletproof vest due to death threats directed at her and her bassist, Mike Visceglia). The circus field was introduced and £100,000 was raised for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and other local charities.

This was my 3rd Glastonbury and one of the worst things I've seen at the festival happened near our tent during Fairground attraction. The Police, on site for the first time, went to arrest a drug dealer.A struggle ensued and suddenly 3 Landrovers full of Police appeared followed by a Police helicopter, which circled the area drowning the band out completely.
It was also the year that my favourite performance took place. At the top of the site in the Kings meadow, before the stone circle appeared, a group of native Americans put on a stunning performance that was barely advertised, we only found out about it by chance.

I remember being there with my parents, we were in a trailer tent and the weather was hot, hot, hot.We were selling cups of juice from our tent. Remember the helicopter coming down and seeing alexi sale the comedian walking around.Really good atmophere and remember suzanne vega playing as we walked back to our tent. Was only 14, but will never forget my first experience of GLASTO!!!

This was my first festival, and it was amazing in many ways. You had to park and carry your gear to the campsite. Well I didn't want to leave my motorbike unattended for the weekend, so I returned to it after setting up the tent, drove out of the site, and round the perimiter roads until I found a way in, to park the bike safely next to my tent. It was blazing sunshine for the entire weekend - got very sunburned. The side fields were full of amazing contraptions - Mad Max style vehicles were patrolling. The organisers had provided wood for campfires, and without a breath of wind as evening fell the vally filled with woodsmoke. There were motorcycles flying around the site - headlight cutting a swathe through the smoke, police landrovers lurking around corners and a helicopter with a massive searchlight, strobes from the main stage and very loud music. I felt like I was on the set of Apocalypse Now. I can't remember who the bands were, but I'll never forget my first festival.
