Due to the rapid growth of Glastonbury Festival, additions were made to communications, welfare and medical teams in 1986. A Classical Music tent curated by John Williams was introduced and the amount of festival-goers swelled to 60,000. Hippies were kicked off the site before the Festival could go ahead with The Cure, Madness and Simply Red amongst the bands playing.

I have such a clear recollection of the night of the Cure performance being amazing. There was a full moon and a thunderstorm you could see slowly coming across the sky overhead as the band played brilliantly through clouds dry ice. The atmosphere was one I will never forget and no one moved to take shelter as the storm passed over delivering its load for a greater fear of missing any of the bands great work. After the gig as people walked away it was funny to see thousands of folk all wet but only to their shoulders being dry everywhere else. We'd all been part of the most memorable musical gig I've ever attended. Years later on retelling this story I discovered my husband had been at the very same gig and we didn't meet until 1990.

I remember the Cure gig vividly. The lights from the stage and the lightning on the hills around the site made for an amazing light show. Better than anyone could have planned. And when it was over, it took forever to get back to our tents because the ground on the slopes behind the main stage were so wet and slippery. No one cared though, the atmosphere was fantastic. I've told the story to people so many times and I don't think, even now, that I can do it justice. You really did have to be there.

That was the stand out memory for me too.The clouds were almost liquid coming over the hills behind the stage as they played. It was quite surreal really,it was like the apocalypse was here !.Gil Scott Heron on the final night was great,Troublefunk were brilliant too-all those horns !.

The Cure set is the only thing I remember, it was my first Glastonbury. Maggie Thatchers stormtroopers had effectively killed the Stonehenge festival. so I came here. nature organised its own lightshow behind the main stage in the shape of a massive electrical storm, with the Cure pumping out their dark music at its epicenter. it was awesome!

Walked up to the Green Field at night and saw a city of fires, flags, smoke and incredible noise. A sight I will never forget, like a Medieval army at camp! Housemartins superb, Robert Cray cool...

Re The Cure. They didn't want the lasers on while they played, well they didn't need them did they! I felt a spot of rain and said to my mate I think I'll go back to the tent and take in some relaxation. We were in our sleeping bags drinking beer and having a crafty smoke when the heavens opened. Oh how we laughed. But I have to say that was one hell of a line up, but then again I say that every year, can't wait till Wednesday 23rd, see you there.

My 1st Glastonbury and luckily I had a backstage pass. The Cure were walking around in the afternoon dragging around toy dogs on leads and I was too scared to ask Robert Smith for his autograph.Housemartins and Billy Bragg were really lovely and played football with me and my friends,Suggs was a total gentleman and talked to kids through the [not very secure]security fence.Simply Red was very snooty and smaller than you would imagine!Listening to The Cure in the storm is one of my best gig moments ever-bloody amazing!
